Hello Amish Diner
If you can get to the Reading Terminal on Thursday or Friday (Saturday is too crowded) I highly reccommend having a leisurely lunch at the Amish Diner. Because you're in Pennsylvania! We may not have the best sushi or all nite Thai noodle bars, but darnit we've got the Pennsylvania Dutch! For 9 bucks I enjoyed a small sloppy joe platter, homemade lemonade and a fresh warm apple dumpling served with ice cold cream.
The sloppy joe tasted like it was made with maple and bacon, on a fresh potato roll. The fries were fried to order and were crisp and salty. The apple dumpling kept soaking in all the cream everytime I poured more into the bowl, it was fantastiche!

so good but whenever I go they are closed. PA dutch delis are amazing too with all kinds of exotic meats. some write off the terminal as too touristy but I love it.
The history of RTM is also pretty amazing, it's basically an evolution of the open air markets that were on market street in the 1800's-
i never go to the down home diner anymore because of the amish diner. the service is excellent and the place is clean. try their home made hot sauce.
the amish are only there from thursday ( maybe wednesday ) to saturday.....
yeah I always seem to forget the Amish schedule and end up there at the wrong time.
I also love the crazy used bookstore (not the cookbook store).. they have all kinds of amazing impossible to find conspiracy/occult/religion and art books, not cheap but some wild stuff there.
