Thinking about Tokyo

I miss having lunch at the Tanaka household. Where after cruising the neighborhood mall ( where you ride your bike through) Ryohei's super mom had soba and croquettes waiting for us. Perfect Lunch.

A Plate for Two...Birds?

This is a picture of an appetizer plate for two from a cafe/restaurant called Morph in Tokyo. These little things were so cute and yummy... we cleared the plate in 15 sec.

I miss big juicy burgers.

Tokyo Bento

In Tokyo, the time goes by very very fast... except when you visit one of the sacred shrines in the city. The garden is usually very quiet. Once you step into the Torii, or gate, you just feel very far away from all the chaos in the city. I always bring my bento box here during my 60min lunch break.

My bento of the day was grilled organic veggies and tarako egg cakes over white rice with a cup of daikon miso soup... all for 600yen or $5.

I sat on top of a big rock and watch the little birds play in a pond.

tokyo lunch

I'm living in Tokyo right now and I feel like I'm in a different planet. I get on a train every morning packed with sweaty old men in suits while I stare at digital screens on the wall. The ATM machine near the station read my veins on my hand and gave me my money without my card.

Well, the best thing so far is the AMPM, the philly equivalent of WAWA. I paid about $6 for my lunch here in Shibuya.

The $2 salad with green beans, black olives, crab meat, and roast potatos!
How weird!! But it was sooo yummy.

These rice balls cost about $1 each. I had a TUNA MAYO (tuna mayonnaise) rice ball and Spicy TOBIKO with mayonnaise rice ball today. I love the package.... It feels like paper and it looks really cute. I am enjoying my OL (Office Lady) life after all.

TOKYO HOTDOG

I found the hotdog guy in Tokyo at Narita Airport!!!

The hotdog here is super small and it costs about $7 each. I was smart enough to go for a tuna rice ball next door so I don't know how tasty it is...
This hotdog place will be the first food-stand you will encounter here in Japan. He will be right there when you come out of the custom at the airport.

The Best OBAN-YAKI in Tokyo

Oban-Yaki is one of the best street food found in Japan. It's a Japanese waffle with a tasty surprise inside. Bombay Bazar in Daikan Yama, Tokyo, can give you the best Oban-Yaki possible. The fluffy crust hugs the warm sweet bean-paste just right. It will be steamy hot on your plate... OISHII NE. Everything on the menu here is 100% natural and organic. Try the blueberry Oban-yaki too. It's only about a doller!!!
Don't forget to go up the stairs to OKURA, they have a great selection of product made of AI-ZOME (Japanese traditional denim) and Japanese inscents.
